DevLog no. 2

Hi everyone

First off, thank you to people here on itch.io and Patreon, who have given "Days and Dreams" such a warm welcome, playing it, reviewing it, subscribing, following, even though we are still at an early prototype phase. I look forward to bringing you more content and developing the game further.

This version 0.1.3 of "Days and Dreams" has seen changes and additions enough that I want to share it here on Itch. In the version-tab of the menu, you can read more about the more specific changes over the last three versions between this and v0.1.0, which was the last version of the game to hit itch.io.

Prototyping continues with a focus on the existing locations and mechanics, heightening their functionality and overall making it better and more interesting. How does each location get utility, uniqueness, and options? How do I get the city to feel inhabited? What are distinctive scenes that can play out at each location and with existing characters? Before adding further locations, recurring NPCs and mechanics, I will try to enrichen the existing ones and slowly set up a foundation for making the world feel livelier when future locations, characters and storylines are added.

And work continues exploring the tone of the game. How much should be linear storylines and how much should be sandbox and customisable? It’s a balance that will be walked throughout development, and I am curious about the player experiences.

As mechanics and the technical foundation of the game is constantly being built and rebuilt, it is a slow and steady proces, where I try and stay inspired, feel free to rethink decisions and take a few steps back once in a while - I try to optimise code as much as I can from the beginning and make some modular mechanics to build the game upon.

Check out the version description in the game menu to for more details about overall changes between versions.

Keep posted and stay in touch.
